PERTH Glory defeated Melbourne Heart 1-0 in a low-key pre-season hitout in wild and windy conditions in Inglewood today.
Glory created the bulk of the most dangerous chances as both Alistair Edwards and John Aloisi opted for youthful, experimental line-ups at Intiga Stadium.

New Heart captain Harry Kewell was one of a host of key players for both sides who sat the match out.

Kewell will play on Saturday when the clubs will ramp up their preparations for the A-League season by fielding more senior outfits in a second clash in Mandurah.

Young Socceroo Jamie McLaren scored the game's only goal in the ninth minute and could have doubled the lead in the 16th minute when his shot from the penalty spot was superbly saved by former Glory goalkeeper Tando Velaphi.

Velaphi continued to thwart his former club in he second half with a series of outstanding saves as Perth was unable to extend its advantage.

Glory begins its A-League season away to Adelaide United on October 13.
